Sunday, October 19th - Come CURL with US!

Have you ever wondered what this sport was all about? Hey, it looks pretty easy on TV. Have you ever wondered if you could do it, too?

The answer is Yes! Come on out and give it a shot!

On October 19th we are inviting YOU to come out and try curling. This is AFTER the Cowboy game vs. St. Louis so come on down.

If you've ever had the slightest idea that you might want to try this Olympic Sport, this is your chance.

Just bring rubber soled shoes and $10 each to help pay for the ice and we will cover the rest of the costs and provide two hours of equipment and instruction. We want you to be there. We want to help you discover this wonderful sport!

Tired of the HEAT? It's plenty cool on the ice. Bring a light jacket.

Please come and be our guest for two hours on October 19th.

Sheet "A" Rocks Update

The well groomed ice at the Bonspiel really accented how much our rocks on Sheet "A" have deteriorated. The pitting on both sides is pretty severe and it has become very obvious that something needs to be done about this.

This summer, members of your Board have been researching options and many dozens of emails, phone calls and meetings later the best solution has been determined.

At the August Membership meeting it was decided to send off Sheet "A" rocks to be inserted and have the strking bands re-profiled. This will hopefully give us another 15+ years with this sheet of rocks.

The best news is that most of the expense for this upgrade of the rocks should be covered by proceeds from the Bonspiel. These funds are the result of corporate donations that were solicted and collected by the Bonspiel Committee and other members of the club that worked so hard to acquire these funds. Give a big thanks to Serge, Jaqueline and Judy when you see them!

This refitting should be easily accomplished well before our 2008-2009 season begins.

September Board of Directors Meeting

The next meeting of your Board of directors is scheduled to be held at the Duncanville Recreation center at 201 James Collins Blvd in Duncanville on sunday, September 14th at 1:30pm. All current members are invited. Contact President@dfwcurling.com if you wish to attend.

Second Texas Open Bonspiel Success!

The 2008 Texas Open Bonspiel was a rock crashing, button sittin', triple blocker success...and fun too!

The '08 'spiel was hosted by the D/FW Curling Club for three days in mid April. Nearly 100 players from Texas, USA and Canada supported this tournament by visiting our home and curling in what was an extremely competetive event. We were honored to host this amazing event and Kudos to our Chairmates Serge and Jacqueline Poissant as we saw every event go off on time.

Congratulations to Team Myers! The winners of the First Event are left to right; Tim Doherty, Connie Krumpferschmidt, Judy Willingham and Nick Myers.

The TOB Traveling Trophy was designed, hand built and donated by our own Scott Powrie.

More pictures from the 'spiel can be found at this link.

We invite everyone to come visit the Texas Open Bonspiel in Spring 2009 as it is hosted by the Lone Star Curling Club in Austin, TX. Check back this winter at www.texasopenbonspiel.org/

 2007-2008 Cardy Cup Championships

We finished up a great season with our club championships where eight teams battled for three weeks for the coveted Cardy Cup. After the dust had cleared (yeah, its Texas, there is dust everywere), a Club Champion was found.

Congratulations go to our 2007-08 Cardy Cup champions, Team Bahr. From left to right are Andy Bahr, Jonathan Havercroft, Valerie McHugh and Shana Healer.

Second place was Team Poissant with members, Serge and Jaqueline Poissant, Mike Hunter and Steve Nielsen.

Presidents Trophy

A new tradition was started this year with the President's Trophy. This award will go each season to the team with the best win/loss record during the regular season.

Our 2007 President's Trophy went to Team Johnson which is comprised of Don Johnson, David Chang, Zac Grantham and Jim Getz. Their team finished the season with a masterful 10-2 record. Congratulations!

Their beautiful traveling trophy was also designed, hand built and donated to the club by Scott Powrie.
