Red River Shootout - Sept 25 & 26
Dallas/Ft. Worth Curling Club
vs. Oklahoma Curling Club
The Red River Shootout is an annual competition between the Dallas/Fort Worth Curling Club and the Oklahoma Curling Club. Each club will send 8 to 10 teams and each team will compete in 4 different events, accumulating points for the overall competition.
The competition is modeled after curling’s Continental Cup and is similar to the Ryder Cup in Golf. The four events are a regular curling game, a skills competition, doubles curling, and a skins game. Everyone who registers for the competition will play one game in each of the four events. The club with the most points at the end of the end of the weekend will win the competition and will keep the Red River Shootout trophy for the year.
The application and details can be found here in pdf format.

Congratulations from the Club!
The Little Club that Could
by John Fowler
With less than fifty members the DFW Curling Club might well be called the little club that could.
In just over two months the club introduced over seven hundred people to curling in two open house events. Then, it started two eight week mini-leagues with eight teams in each league and offered curling classes to many of the people who were unable to get a spot in the two mini-leagues.
That was a good start, but things just keep rolling (or should I say sliding) along. With only three weeks left before the next two mini leagues are set to start the Wednesday league is sold out and there are only a few spaces left on the Tuesday league. Judy Willingham-Friend, the club president said, “Many of the teams from the first mini-leagues have already signed up for the next session and are asking to continue playing as a team."
Last week, twenty-two people from the DFW Curling Club went to the Texas Open Bonspiel in Houston. Most were competing but some were just there to be a part of the excitement and to root for the other club members.
Carolyn, and her daughter, Dakota were two of those competing from the Dallas club. When asked about going to the Bonspiel, Carolyn said, “My husband, Dakota, and I spent three days watching Olympic curling on TV. We decided that it looked like fun and decided to give it a try. Now that we have, we can’t get enough.”
Four others- Krystal Kulka, Andy Cooper, Steve Walton and Chris Alt - from the Wednesday league signed up for the TOB, but the tournament was filled before their application was received. Not to be discouraged they went to watch and cheer. They also decided to enter the Utah Bonspiel in May.
Onward and Upward!
May/June Mini Leagues Full
Both Tuesday and Wednesday nights are full for the next eight week mini-league. If your curling jones still needs to to be satisfied, check back here.
We are trying to set up more curling classes and will soon be organizing another eight week league to follow the current one.
If you've GOT to curl sooner, Come on out on Tuesday/Wednesday nights from 7:30-9:30, get there early and ask the skips if they need substitutes. There are usually a few open spots.

2010 State of the Club Adress
Over the last three months the club has used this website almost exclusively to advertise and promote curling by starting up leagues and clinics. Now that things have slowed down a little, here is the 2010 State of the Club Address that was delivered to the membership in February.
Team Harvercroft Wins 2009-2010 Club Championship
Team Havercroft, condisting of Jonathan Havercroft, Andrew Buckner, Becky Buckner and Jason Hotra, won the 2009-2010 DFW Curling Club championship playoffs. Going into the playoffs as the sixth and last seed, this accomplishment was made even more impressive by the fact that the Skip could not be present for the final. He was in Oklahoma City giving birth to a new curling club. Congratulations to all!
Team Kleppe Wins 2009-2010 Presidents Cup for Second Straight Year
Congratulations to Team Kleppe for winning the 2009-10 Presidents Trophy! Members are Don Kleppe, Stephen Kleppe, Shana Healer and Lenni Sommer. They tied with Team Myers with a league leading 9-3 record but beat them on the "most ends" tiebreaker.
Open House Thank You!
Our Olympic open houses were a tremendous success with over 700 curlers arriving to give curling a try. A big thanks from the Board to the Club for working the long hours to make this event the success that it was.
An Extra BIG thanks from the Club to those of you that came out to give it a try. If you gave us your email, we will be contacting you about future events.
For those several hundred of you that showed up and we couldn't get you onto the ice, we will try to do something special for you. Watch your email box. Again, we apologize for not being able to put you on the ice but the response has been overwhelming our available ice time.
We will be forming events, classes and leagues throughout the summer. Keep your eye on the website or sign up for the NEWSLETTER and Come Curl With Us!
